This American Life recently rebroadcast their program Heretics, originally aired December 16, 2005. This program features the spiritual journey of the Rev. Carlton Pearson as he wrestled with the issues and questions of "traditional Hell."
Pearson, who was one of the superstars of the black Pentecostal church, was pastor of the 5000 member Higher Dimensions Evangelistic Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma until his doubts about his own "hellfire-and-damnation" preaching precipitated his fall from favor.
While you might not agree with exactly where Pearson ended up in his thinking, the issues he wrestled with are precisely the issues John Jackman is examining in the upcoming book.
